The Mayor of Mogadishu who is also the Governor of Banadir Region, H.E. Abdirahman Omar Osman (Eng. Yarisow), has today laid the stone foundation of Banadir Regional Administration Construction Materials Testing Laboratory which will be built in the District of Wadajir.
H.E. Eng. Yarisow has emphasized the importance of the Lab which will reduce the cost and effort for testing soil samples, enable the Government to establish a budget for Lab operations, maintenance, expansion and improvement by charging for services and open up opportunities for universities to train materials science students, particularly females and those from diverse backgrounds.
The Lab is aimed at helping the economy by saving money for Somali Business people who currently spend significant amounts of money and time by sending geophysical materials to Kenya for testing in order to design durable infrastructure facilities that are suited to the respective environment.
“the Lab will improve the quality and suitability of construction material utilized across the Banadir Region and all over Somalia, help expand the number of materials science experts from diverse backgrounds and open up new job types.” Said Eng. Yarisow.
The Government, private sector construction companies, and donors/projects spend significant amounts of money and time sending geophysical materials to Kenya for testing in order to design durable infrastructure facilities that are suited to the respective environment.
H.E. Abdirahman Omar Osman (Eng. Yarisow) finally expressed his appreciation to the TIS+ project of USAID who is supporting the building of this new laboratory which will be the first of its kind to be built in Somalia.
This specific project of the Lab is part of USAID’s efforts to rebuild Somalia. Its TIS+ project supports the government of Somalia in a number of areas and contributes largely in the stability of Somalia, construction, reconciliation and Strategic Communication.
