The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, has today assented to the Anti-Corruption Commissions Establishment Act that paves way for the formation of Federal and State levels Anti-corruption bodies at the State House, Villa Somalia.
The establishment of the Federal Anti-Corruption Commissions at the two levels of administration is in accordance with Article 111 of the Provisional Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
While giving reference to the effects of the corruption pandemic to the countryโs governance and growth, H.E President Farmajo termed the bill as a major step in the fight against graft since it allows for the formation of Anti-corruption committees whose mandate would be to spearhead the prevention and control of corruption.
โThe destruction of corruption is worse as compared to cancer. Corruption, unlike cancer, doesnโt just affect an individual, it destroys the entire community. Therefore, It remains my expectations that the members of the pioneer Committee that that will take the lead will constitute people of reputable character and integrity, guided by religious morals and patriotism.โ Finished President Farmaajo.
โGood governance is a key government requirement. We must establish reforms across the different levels of government. As a matter of reality, everything cannot be fixed at once owing to the longstanding historical challenges, but we want to bring reforms in all sectors of the society to bring the desired changes for prosperity.”
Finally President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo applauded the Members of the Cabinet, legislators from the Federal Parliament, the National Economic Council and various other stakeholders for their extra-ordinary roles in making the finalization of the bill a success.
