On the 14th of January 2019, The Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development (MoPIED) held a workshop in Mogadishu, Somalia, preparing media personnel on how to obtain effective media coverage of the ninth National Development Plan (NDP9), which will cover the period of 2020-2024. The workshop was attended by both private and public media personnel.
The ninth national development plan was officially launched on December the 19th 2018 by His Excellency the Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheyre and the Minster of Planning, Investment and Economic Development, His Excellency Ambassador Gamal Hassan.
Going back since 1962, Somalia has had eight national development plans.
Seven NDP’s were implemented before 1990. The current national development plan (NDP8) is in itsfinal year of implementation and thus the Federal Government of Somalia has begun drafting the 9th NDP which is meant to be implemented as off January 2020.
NDP9will fulfill Interim Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (iPRSP) conditionality, which will ensure that Somalia meets one of its most vital structural benchmarks for the 3rd staff monitored program (SMP) administered by the IMF. The process will include rigorous and participatory consultations with; federal institutions; federal member states; parliaments; civil society and the private sector.
