ย In order to enhance operational efficiency and improve the effectiveness of the Somali Police Force (SPF), the police component of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), today delivered an assortment of office equipment and furniture to the force.
The equipment which included desktop computers, cameras, biometric equipment, as well as office furniture, will help the Somali Police Force improve service delivery to local populations.
Procured with funds from the Japanese government, the equipment will be distributed to various departments within the police force.
โI really want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the African Union, specifically to AMISOM, who are with us come rain, come sunshine. I am very pleased how quickly you managed to get all this equipment together and I will personally take upon myself to make sure that they are utilized properly and will be distributed to the departments that are in most need of it,โ said Ms. Zakia Hussein, the Somali Deputy Commissioner of Police, during the official handover of the equipment, at the Police Headquarters.
She noted that the donation was timely and made an assurance that it will be equitably distributed to needy police stations.
AMISOM Police Coordinator of Reforms and Restructuring, Maxwell Chikunguru who handed over the equipment, expressed AMISOMโs continued commitment to the training, mentoring, restructuring and reforms in the Somali Police Force.
โWe have a mandate to build the capacity of the SPF and this event signifies our efforts towards realizing the capacity building process,โ he stated.
โThis gesture will go a long way in contributing towards leaving the Somali Police Force with richer, better and more professional policing standards, as outlined in the Somali transitional plan.โ
The handover ceremony was attended by senior officials from AMISOM, among them, the Police Operations Coordinator, Daniel Ali Gwambal and AMISOM Civil Affairs officer, Christopher Ogwang Aria.
