The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullhi Farmaajo has expressed his thanks and gratitude to the State and Government of Qatar under the leadership of the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, for developmental and humanitarian projects and its assistance to the people and Government of the Republic of Somalia in various fields.
It came in a meeting of President of the Federal Republic of Somalia with Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari, Director General of the Qatar Fund for Development.
The President appreciated the great improvements that will be derived from road projects because of its positive impact on the Somali economy as a whole. Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari, Director General of the Qatar Fund for Development signed a contract for two road projects with the Somali government; the Mogadishu-Jowhar Road and the Mogadishu- Afgoye Road, with the main contractor (ENEZ Insaat) and the site supervision consulting firm for ASTAD Project Management.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Hassan bin Hamza Hashim, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Somalia, in addition to a delegation from the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) and a number of ministers, officials and parliamentarians attended from Somali side.
Hassan Ali Khairi, Prime Minister of Somalia, has laid the foundation stone for two road projects with the Somali government; the Mogadishu-Jowhar Road and the Mogadishu- Afgoye Road. The Mogadishu-Jowhar Road is 90 km long whereas the Mogadishu- Afgoye Road is 22 km long. This project, designed to support the people of Somalia by providing suitable infrastructure, will also generate economic growth and job creation in the market subsequently driving the development of the country.
This project is of particular importance to Qatar Fund for Development, being a long-term development project that will yield many benefit to the people in the area, it will contribute to stabilizing people’s lives, and will increase their accessibility therefore contributing to the economic development of the country.
