During the meeting Hon Oomar had an opportunity to meet with delegation s from various countries, he discussed how to further the progress Somalia has made in the aviation industry and who to build better cooperation with their countries.

The international delegation praised Somalia for the progress it has made over the past few years which saw Somalia taking full control of its air space. The Minister and his team were appreciated for doing all efforts to see the aviation industry succeed.

The first ICAO Treaty Event was successfully conducted during the 40th Session of the ICAO Assembly.

Seven other States took the opportunity to sign and deposit instruments of ratification to international air law treaties for which ICAO acts as Depositary, including Congo through its Minister of Transport, Civil Aviation and the Merchant Marine, Mr. Fidèle Dimou. Congo was not only the first State to participate in the Treaty Event but also the first to inform ICAO of its intent to do so.

A specialized agency of the United Nations, ICAO was created in 1944 to promote the safe and orderly development of international civil aviation throughout the world. It sets standards and regulations necessary for aviation safety, security, efficiency, capacity and environmental protection, amongst many other priorities. The Organization serves as the forum for cooperation in all fields of civil aviation among its 193 Member States.

The first ICAO Treaty Event was successfully conducted this year during the 40th Session of the ICAO Assembly.

Seven States took the opportunity to sign and deposit instruments of ratification to international air law treaties for which ICAO acts as Depositary, with a total of 14 depositary actions being recorded.

The Treaty Event focused mainly on the promotion of the Montreal Convention of 1999, the Beijing Convention and Protocol of 2010, the Montréal Protocol of 2014, as well as the 2016 Protocols amending Articles 50(a) and 56 of the Chicago Convention.

Its results now mean that there are 32 Parties to the Beijing Convention, 34 Parties to the Beijing Protocol as well as 51 Parties to the 2016 Protocols amending Articles 50(a) and 56 of the Chicago Convention.

Taking place under the theme of “A Century of International Air Law Treaties”, the timing of the 2019 event recognized the fact that this year not only marks the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on International Civil Aviation (Chicago, 1944), but also the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on Aerial Navigation (Paris, 1919).
