Mogadishu, 19th December 2022: The Somali Federal Government’s triumph over terror received a major boost today after a top-ranking official from the Khawarijite terrorist group of Al Shabab, Mohamed Ali Hassan alias Moalim Hudeifa, and three other militants surrendered to the Somali National Forces in HirShabelle State.
Moalim Hudeifa was the commander of the Khawarijite militias who were recently crushed in the Middle Shabelle region by the Somali National Forces. His move follows the Federal Government of Somalia’s promise of amnesty and rehabilitation for surrendering Khawarij members who wish to change their ways and build a new future for themselves.
The Federal Government of Somalia has welcomed the action taken by this leader and calls on other militias to heed this call for amnesty and rehabilitation and gain the opportunity to be reintegrated back into a productive society that is forging ahead to a prosperous future.
Over the past few days, several individuals who served in the Al Shabab Khawarij group as self-styled elders and militia commanders have surrendered to the government.
Eight Khawarij members who were hiding in the liberated areas of the Middle Shabelle region have also been apprehended by The Somali National Army and its allies in the military offensive against Al Shabaab.
A day ago a self-proclaimed elder Said Rage and another militant, both active members of the Khawarij have surrendered to the national army.
The Federal Government of Somalia is committed to eradicating the ruthless Khawarij who have continuously twisted the Islamic religion to justify their illicit actions against the nation and its people.
The Somali National Army, under the guidance of the Federal Government of Somalia, remains committed to carrying out the ongoing operations in strict compliance with its obligations under international humanitarian law, human rights law, Islamic law and Somali customary rules of warfare.
